The Lisbon Index is a small catalogue of independent bookshops in Lisbon. It is written by a reader who visits each shop in person, often more than once. There is no advertising. There is no sponsorship. There is no attempt to be comprehensive — Google can be comprehensive. The point is to be specific.

Each entry is kept short. Why go. What to buy. What is nearby. The judgment is signed; the pull quotes are selected on purpose. The map is a map and not an infographic.

If you spot an error — a changed address, a changed owner, a shop that has closed — write us. If you know of a shop that belongs in Volume II, write us too. Corrections carry a byline where you'd like one.
